BT FON thumb.jpgConnecting to BT’s Openzone wi-fi hotspots just got a lot easier for iPhone-owning BT Total Broadband customers. The new BT FON app makes tracking down one of BT’s 1.6 million wireless zones easy, with maps guiding you to the nearest one.

It’s a free part of the BT Total Broadband package, and will be welcomed by those racking up large 3G mobile data bills.

John Petter, managing director, for BT Retail Consumer, said: “Millions of BT Total Broadband customers already get free access to the UK’s biggest Wi-Fi network. This free app makes accessing Wi-Fi so simple you don’t even have to think about it. This represents real value to our customers at a time when more and more people are using their mobile phone to access the internet. By downloading it now customers can also help BBC Children in Need.”

If that wasn’t enough, 50p for every BT FON application downloaded will be donated to the BBC Children in Need Appeal, up to the sum of £10,000, even though it’s actually a free download. Nice.
