pool camera.jpgEver missed out on capturing a magical holiday moment because you couldn’t figure out the settings on your digital camera? Well, with us at Tech Digest being technology gurus we can’t say we have to be honest. But if you have, it’d appear you’re not alone.

According to research commissioned by customer review website Reevoo.com, 44% of the 2,000 Brits they surveyed admitted to missing out on once-in-a lifetime photo opportunities because they didn’t fully understand how their cameras worked. This was despite spending on average £154 on a new camera before the trip.

Even more worrying was that holidays cost on average 22% of holidaymakers £209 in lost or damaged technology. One in twenty people admitted to dropping their gadgets in either the swimming pool, or worse, the toilet. Ewwww.

Reevoo.com founder Richard Anson said: “Digital cameras not only have to be easy to use but also able to withstand everything we throw at them on holiday, whether it’s an adventure vacation or a family friendly getaway.  We have chosen the top cameras based on the reviews of the people who have actually bought and used them, looking at their ease of use and suitability for the job they’re given.”

According to Reevoo, the best of the bunch are:

Best overall: Nikon D700
Best for kids: Vtech Kidizoom Plus Multimedia Digital Camera
Best waterproof: Fujifilm Finepix Z33WP
Best for active holidays: Canon Powershot D10
Best compact: Casio EX-S12
Best under £100: Kodak EasyShare Z915
Best SLR under £500: Sony Alpha DSLR-A330L with 18-55mm lens
