chrome windows.jpgGoogle are encouraging their employees to stop using Microsoft’s Windows OS. The move comes after a number of high-profile attacks on the search company were made through Microsoft products.

An exploit in the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser led to a successful hacking attempt on Google, believed to have been carried out by the Chinese government.

“We’re not doing any more Windows. It is a security effort,” The Financial Times quotes one unnamed Google employee as saying.

“Many people have been moved away from [Windows] PCs, mostly towards Mac OS, following the China hacking attacks,” said another.

As well as being offered Apple products to work with, Google employees are now adopting Linux too on which to develop new apps and software.

Google have their own OS in the pipeline, the web based Chrome OS, expected to be released before the end of the year.
