Sony are looking to turn their smash-hit PS3 Uncharted games into a big-budget Hollywood movie, new reports are suggesting.

The Los Angeles Times said that Sony have been in talks with David O. Russell (director of I Heart Huckabees, Three Kings and the forthcoming Christian Bale/ Mark Whalberg led flick The Fighter) about potentially helming the adaptation.

According to the paper, Russell is one of a number of choices Sony are currently mulling over, with all plans currently “at the meeting stage, and not close to the dealmaking one.”

The script according to Sony executives is already looking like dynamite. Penned by Thomas Dean Donelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (whose previous credits include Sahara and the upcoming Conan The Barbarian remake), Sony are so pleased with the story that they’re pushing for a release date perhaps as soon as summer 2011.

For those unfamiliar with the Uncharted franchise, the games lend themselves incredibly well to a movie adaptation. Pulpy adventures in the same vein as Indiana Jones, they follow quick-witted treasure hunter Nathan Drake on globe-trotting quests to uncover vast riches.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves picked up Tech Digest’s game of the year accolade last Christmas, and also cleaned up at the recent BAFTA Video Games Awards, claiming four gongs, including best story.
