wii falling profits.jpgNintendo have released their annual financial report, revealing a fall in annual profits for the first time in four years.

As demand for the Wii hardware continues to decline, operating profit fell by 36% to 356.57bn yen (£2.5bn) in the year to 31 March.

With so many households now owning Wiis, Nintendo have lowered their sales expectations for the console for the year ending March 2011 to 18 million units. This is down from 20.53 million this year.

Nintendo remain optimistic that Nintendo DS sales will improve in 2011, though it is unclear whether they are referring to the current crop of handhelds or the 3D version of the DS slated for release late this year.
