Cowboys in videogames – saddling up for Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption.jpgRed Dead Redemption, the open-world cowboy adventure from the brains behind the Grand Theft Auto series, is shaping up to be one of the must-have games of the year. A stunning take on Sergio Leone style Spaghetti Westerns, it’s a tale of revenge (naturally) served up with some of the finest graphics we’ve seen from the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Cowboys and videogames seemingly go together like bread and butter, but compared to a genre like sci-fi, they’ve been pretty under-represented by games developers.

That said, dig deep enough into the bargain bin at your local games shop and you can find a few western-themed gems out there. And, to be fair, some stinkers too.

So, in preparation for our Red Dead Redemption review next week, Tech Digest take a retrospective look at the good, the bad and the ugly of western-inspired cowboy videogames.

  • Frankly they have spent way too long on red dead redemption – they need a release soon or itll loose its audience
