nokia.jpgAccording to Mobile Entertainment, Nokia is set to sue Apple for what they call an infringement of ten of their patents.

It appears the iPhone’s use of GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN technology are the main points of contention, with the patents infringed covering wireless data, security, speech coding, and encryption.

Nokia’s Vice President of legal & intellectual property Ilkka Rahnasto said in a statement: “The basic principle in the mobile industry is that those companies who contribute in technology development to establish standards create intellectual property, which others then need to compensate for. Apple is also expected to follow this principle. By refusing to agree appropriate terms for Nokia’s intellectual property, Apple is attempting to get a free ride on the back of Nokia’s innovation.”

Though Apple are yet to respond, it appears the pair will have quite a legal battle in the coming months.
