police.jpgEver wondered how safe your street is? Thanks the new online Crime Mapping service launched by the Metroplitan Police, you can find out now.

The website allows you to zoom in and out of a map, just like with Google Maps, but the key difference here is the colour coded sectors that represent differing rates of crime between areas. Click a location and you can get exact figures on crimes and the most prevalent offences in that area.

Policing and Crime Minster David Hanson MP said of the service, “Crime maps are a key part of delivering neighbourhood policing and giving communities access to information like this not only improves public confidence but ensures police are responding to local people’s needs. We know the public want this information, which will allow them to hold the police to account and help create an even more responsive and effective service.”

For those who’d rather remain blissfully unaware of the horrors that surround them, steer clear of http://maps.met.police.uk/ .
