Motorola DextIf you were impressed by the look of the Motorola Android phone the Dext, known in the US as the Cliq, you won’t have long to wait before you can get your hands on one.

Orange has confirmed that it will be shipping the Dext in early October and it will be free to customers on a two year contract who pay £34.26 per month.

In case you missed the launch last week the device teams the innovative Google operating system up with a new user interface Motorola calls Motoblur. Designed to differentiate the device from other smartphones Motoblur synchronises contacts, posts, messages and photos from sources such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, email and LastFM – and automatically delivers it to the device’s home screen.

The device itself has the QWERTY keypad that many Android devices feature, but also includes high-end facilities such as HSDPA, Wi-Fi, a five mega pixel camera, GPS and a 3.5mm headphone socket. It will be available in both black and white.

Motorola got a mixed reception to the phone when it launched last week. Financial analysts seemed impressed and Moto’s share price temporarily leapt up a few points. However some of the initial reviews of the phone have been critical of its shape and size.
