LG debuts GD510 budget touch screen phone

Blimey! LG’s mobile phone division has been busy of late. Not just content with debuting its first Android phone and reinventing the Chocolate handset it has now unveiled a budget touch screen phone for people who think that there are too many features on mobile phones.

You have to hand it to them for at first glance the GD510 looks a pretty well thought out and maybe even compelling budget proposition. LG is making a feature out of the phone not having any, well, features. There’s no 3G or Wi-Fi which apparently makes it easier for the company to deliver a compact and skinny phone.

LG has also ditched the S Class user interface (as featured on this and others) on the phone (this is good news as I find it a bit tricky) for a cleaner and apparently simple to use control system.

There’s still plenty to amuse the user though. The handset has a pretty good looking 3-inch WQVGA touch screen, eight Gigabytes of storage, a 3.0 mega pixel camera and a single home key for making and receiving phone calls.

One potentially very neat facility is the addition of an optional solar panel at the back for grabbing a hit of extra power for the phone’s battery.

It will be available in the UK in mid October.
