Facebook finds the way to start the cash flowing in – their survey says…

facebook-money.jpgI’m not sure I should feel as outraged as part of me wants to with more news of Facebook’s embracing of the commercial sector like a big cold kiss.

The social networking galacticon’s plan is to allow companies to survey Facebook users by dropping polls into our feeds. Of course, it’s up to you if you want to take them or not and, if they’re dressed up well, I should imagine a lot of people will.

They’ll get a far better response than telephone, e-mail or, dare I suggest it, even snail mail questionnaires and, most importantly, they can target them at very specific markets eg: Polish ex-pats living in South London between the ages of 20-30. Very useful stuff.

Naturally, Facebook is an absolute gold mine as far as marketeers are concerned and I’ve got to say, good on the social network for managing to take their idea and monetising the hell out of it. You’ve got to be impressed really.

So, the question is, will Facebook do this sensibly, piece by piece without poisoning our pages, or is this the end of the beginning of the end? Let me know what you think in the comments.
