vuzix-wrap-920av.jpgWe’ve just been given the full details on the Vuzix 920AVs that I posted about on Friday, and gosh, they look more exciting than I had anticipated. Remember how I said that they seemed to be the non-interactive version? They’re not – there’s an option to fit them with a “6-Degree of Freedom tracking sensor and/or Stereo Camera Pair”.

That means that you can mix images from in front of you with virtual content. Imagine looking down a street, and seeing little markers come up from famous buildings saying what they are, or the ultimate Sat-Nav system which can tell which way you’re looking and show you which way to go with a line on the road.

Okay, maybe that’s a tiny bit beyond the capabilities of this device at launch, but there’s no reason that with an accurate-enough GPS unit and a decent computer unit attached, this stuff couldn’t be developed with this headset. Can you taste that? It’s the future.

Don’t believe me? If you take a quick look at Vuzix’s website, you’ll see that the company makes this sort of stuff for the military. There’s no reason why they can’t adapt the tech for the consumer market. And as I mentioned in the previous post, these actually don’t look a million miles from a real pair of sunglasses.

Lastly, if you used the previous models, and found them horrible, because you wear glasses, you’ll be pleased to hear that these will come with “cost optional prescription lens inserts”. No more squinting and headaches, I hope. Oh, and it looks like the headphones attached are the much nicer in-ear ones, too.

Here’s the full spec list:

  • Virtual 60-inch screen viewed from 9-feet
  • 2D and 3D video formats
  • Quantum Optics Technology
  • Twin high-resolution AMLCD displays
  • Ultra low power electronics
  • High-quality noise-isolating and removable comfort fit earphones

As soon as I can get a pair in, you can bet you’ll get a video review.
