OFFICIAL: Nokia's first touchscreen phone, the 5800 XpressMusic
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, formerly known as the Tube. It’s not quite as red as we first thought, which is a shame, but our rumour was correct about the announcement date.
It’s Nokia’s very first touchscreen device, and as such, is competing directly with the iPhone. Especially given the amount of music features that Nokia have pumped into it. It comes with a “Comes with Music” subscription, which gives you a year’s worth of free music. Free, and heavily DRMed, but that’s a topic for another post. The 5800 XpressMusic weighs 109g and measures 11.1 x 5.17 x 1.55 cm. It’s packed with Wi-Fi, A-GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, an 8GB SD card, a 3.2″ display, an accelerometer and – yay! – a 3.5″ headphone jack. No crappy bundled headphones for you.
The OS itself is a modified version of S60. It provides tactile feedback when you use the touchscreen, so you’ll feel it “click” under you slightly. There’s no multitouch, but there is copy and paste, you’ll be glad to hear. There’s no N-Gage games, but Nokia say:
“The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is our first of many touch screen devices targeted at the mass-market. While I can’t provide specific details, I can confirm that we will introduce touch screens across our portfolio, including the Nseries range.”
Text input is accomplished with either handwriting recognition from a stylus, a full screen qwerty keyboard – iPhone style, a smaller virtual keyboard, or a virtual keypad with T9. None of those options sound especially appealing to me, but I’m assured that the haptic feedback really improves the on-screen keyboard options so I’ll stay open-minded.
Overall I’m mostly impressed. This is a good effort from Nokia, but so far, it doesn’t seem to blow the iPhone away. We’ll have more when I’ve had a chance to play with it myself.

your not impressed with this phone? i was not impressed with iphone when i tried too..with all the fuzz i was thinking that was a “super-phone” , but no iphone is no super phone!
this nokia is like the iphone,,at least have A-GPS, Sd card slot..better resolution for phtos , copy paste..etc etc..so your not immpressed , better the iphone hum? laking lots of this ! apple fans like products even if lack of things, thay keep telling iphone is the best ! don undestand, and do not talk about OS !
