medion-akoya-p6612.jpgWhoa. Aldi isn’t somewhere that I shop at a lot, but this is an amazing deal. It’s a Medion Akoya P6612 16″ laptop for just £580. The specs on the P6612 are fantastic for that price.

You get a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 320GB of hard disk space, 4GB of RAM, 16″ display (at 16:9 aspect ratio), NVidia GeForce 9600M GS graphics card with 256MB of graphics memory and HDMI output, and Wi-Fi. You also get a DVD burner, DVB-T tv tuner card, Bluetooth 2.0, a webcam, microphone, fingerprint reader, eSATA connector and a 4-in-1 card reader. Phew!

It comes with a (probably crappy) carry bag, and an optical USB mouse. It runs Windows Vista Home Premium, though you can obviously install whatever operating system you like on it. This would be a decent gaming laptop which, although it wouldn’t run Crysis flawlessly, would run most other games released this and next year on medium detail.

As with any laptop, I wouldn’t ever call it “future-proof”, but at that price you really can’t argue with those specs. Go buy it. Now.
