HANNspree HT09: 28-inch full high definition LCD TV

hannspree_HT09_lcd_tv.jpgHANNspree is pretty pleased with itself as it boasts one of the few 28-inch widescreen LCD TVs on the market.

Though the TV boasts full HD credentials, both analogue and digital tuners, two HDMI and two SCART inputs, and teletext, there’s still something a bit “computer monitor” about this screen.

Full HD it may be, but it has a 16:10 aspect ratio (1,920 x 1,200 resolution) rather than the standard 16:9 of most branded HDTVs. That means black bars at the top and bottom of standard widescreen material, or picture stretching. The additional vertical resolution makes it great for hooking up to a PC via VGA or DVI, though.

Other features include 500cd/m2 brightness, 800:1 contrast ratio, 3ms response time, 160 degree viewing angle, and two 5W speakers.

Quality wise, I don’t think it’s unfair to say that you get what you pay for. At £279.99, when even a 26-inch set from the likes of Sony, Panasonic or Samsung can cost at least £350, don’t expect all the cutting edge features you’d get on them. For the budget-conscious non-videophile consumer, though, it may not be a bad choice.

  • This TV does not allow 1:1 pixel matching – it stretches the picture vertically.

    Even if you use a 1920 x 1200 source you do not seem to get a perfect pixel match, text highlights this problems with fuzzy verticals every 10 or so characters – when using the HDMI input!!.

  • I agree with your statement about the 1920×1200 resolution: “That means black bars at the top and bottom of standard widescreen material, or picture stretching.”

    Do you know for sure if this TV supports 1:1 pixel matching (the black bar option) or if it only stretches? (or has the option?)
