chargebox_vodafone.jpgVodafone has announced that it’s to roll out a ChargeBox service across a number of its stores, allowing anyone to hire a secure locker and charge up their portable device while out and about.

Following successful trials in 12 locations across the country, the service will now roll out in 30 of Vodafone’s stores. There’s no special treatment for Vodafone’s own customers, with everyone paying a pound for 30 minutes, up to two pounds for 90 minutes of charge time.

Each box contains a variety of adapters to ensure that the majority of phones and devices can be charged up.

Good news for intensive users of mobile phones, laptops, and portable gaming devices, assuming they can find one of the Vodafone stores.

In London, the following locations will have ChargeBoxes: Clerkenwell, Covent Garden, The Strand, St Pancras, Oxford Street, Edgware Road, Harrods, Kensington High Street, Chiswick High Road, Putney, Wimbledon Bridge.

Outside London, you’re currently limited to the Wellington Shopping Centre in Aldershot, the Harlequin Centre in Watford, the Eagle Centre in Derby, Clumber Street in Nottingham, Abbey Centre Retail Centre in Newton Abbey, Victoria Square in Belfast, The Bullring in Birmingham, The Mall in Barnsley, The Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland, Grand Arcade in Cambridge, Eldon Square in Newcastle, County Square in Ashford, Alexandra Gardens in Folkestone, The Arndale Centre in Eastbourne, Westbury Mall in Fareham, New George Street in Plymouth, Kingsland Crescent in Poole, the Quedam Centre in Yeovil, and Broadmead in Bristol.

Could be a nice little earner for Vodafone if it takes off, though it’s worth noting that the ChargeBox system is already available at a number of other locations including some Carphone Warehouse stores, hotels, airports, and the like.
