Microsoft bin Jerry Seinfeld and move to reclaim "I'm a PC"

mitchandwebb.jpgSomeone at Microsoft’s listening to Gary Cutlack, and his hatred of Microsoft’s ill-judged ads featuring Jerry Seinfeld. Or maybe they’re just listening to the entire rest of the internet. Microsoft have wisely binned Seinfeld in favour of a whole bevvy of stars in the second phase of their new Windows ad campaign.

The comedian is being replaced by a Microsoft engineer. Sounds uncharismatic? That’s sort of the point. Microsoft are taking the fight to Apple by trying to reclaim the “I’m a PC” line, made famous by Mitchell and Webb (pictured) in the UK. The ad features an engineer declaring “I’m a PC, and I’ve been made into a stereotype”.

The ad then, however, moves over to everyday people. Well, sort-of. Scientists, fashion designers, and shark hunters are mentioned. I wouldn’t call any of those “everyday people”. They should talk to council workers, or estate agents, or civil servants. Then they might get the point across.

Eva Longoria, Deepak Chopra and Pharrell Williams are also due to feature in the forthcoming ads. When they appear, we’ll show you them, and mock them mercilessly. Just like I’m happy to link to comics mocking the Apple ads.

  • I saw on the news that the money they dumped at Shire was fake, to represent the money he had raised. It wasn’t the actual money.

  • So in order to combat Apples ‘start your photocopiers Redmond’ accusations of blandness and a distint lack of innovativity, they’re going to resort to copying Apples ads in order to try and relinquish Vista as a unique and worthwhile product?

    Laugh. Out. Loud.

    • Fair comment. Though personally I think it’s rather brave of them to confront Apple head-on with their accusations.
