How are you feeling? Feeling good? Happy? Okay, well go look at something else. This isn’t for you.

Feeling terribly depressed? Just watched ‘Zeitgeist the Movie‘ and think the world is going to hell in a teacup? Well, excellent. Join me, and read on…

The world is a big place, and no matter how often you read the papers or watch the news, you have no idea exactly how big the scale of the problems that exist at anyone time around the planet really is. Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Biological Hazards, Chemical accidents.. all these things are happening somewhere on the globe right now and unless you have access to the Thunderbirds mission control computer on Tracy Island, then you’re completely ignorant of them all.

Well, you were. Not anymore. Because EDIS, a non-profit emergency services organisation in Hungary, has provided us with a free-to-use online map compiling all of the world’s reported disasters in continually refreshing real-time. The perfect thing to look at and fret over.

Like the darker, twisted brother of good ol’ Google-maps, the EDIS (Emergency & Disaster Information Service) map clearly identifies all the disaster’s you could possibly need to know about, using hundreds of sources gathered from around the planet including the World Health Organisation and the U.S. Geological Survey – all of whom provide details on any and all official disasters and emergencies.

At the time of writing this report, EDIS is telling me that a Level 3 warning (is that bad?) is in place around the Yapur Volcano in the South Pacific; there’s a flood alert in Canada; and there is harmful Algal blooms in Sweden, which sounds particularly nasty – i hope it’s not sexually transmitted.. The country could be doomed.

It should be noted, however, that for all the reports that the EDIS does receive, many poorer nations are unable to send their updates, and so, (according to the map) they are left seemingly blissfully peaceful and unaffected.

Check out the map and give yourself a moment to soak in all the global madness, and then i suggest you go back to doing whatever it was you were doing. The information is great, but unless you are a superhero or live as a member of the Thunderbirds brotherhood, then there’s not much else you can do.

That said, if you are a Thunderbird, what the hell are you doing reading this blog when there is so much work for you to be doing?! Go get those ‘birds in the air and do some rescuing!
