It’s summer! Or so I have discovered upon leaving Scotland for the weekend! And that means it’s a great time to go outside and not gawp aimlessly at the gogglebox. That’s why you need a PVR – else, who knows, they might change the entire cast of ‘Stenders and you’d never know how it happened. Handily, Humax has just launched two new PVRs with built-in twin Freeview tuners.

First up is the PVR-9300T, sporting a hefty 320GB hard drive – good for over 200 hours of programming. It’s designed for HD TV users too and offers HDMi upscaling.

The PVR-9150T, meanwhile, is a cheaper alternative and only has a 160GB recording capacity. Still, that’s likely to be more than the spare hard disc space you’ve got left on your PC for iPlayer downloads, and these won’t auto-delete after a week or cause your ISP to have a hissy fit.

Both devices offer a fairly novel array of recording functions: the Schedule recording mode keeps track of changes to the playing schedule so you don’t end up recording the last ten minutes of some Olympic curling gold medal attempt by accident. Split Recording gets you round the problem of channels dumping news bulletins in the middle of their films and Alternate Instance Recording alerts you if there’s a clash between your recordings and tries to find later repeat for you.

The Humax PVR-9300T and PVR-9150T are out today but will be hitting high street retailers on the 1st of August. They are priced at around £199 and £149.99 respectively.
