In the push for ever cheaper PCs, Taiwanese company Carapelli has started selling a $130 (about £70) laptop PC.

It features a seven inch LCD screen, Linux operating system, 400MHz processor, 128MB of RAM and 1GB of Flash storage, plus an optional dongle for wireless networking.

It comes with various office and multimedia software and a web browser.

Though it has to be bought 100 at a time to get the discount, some are predicting even cheaper laptops to come. Mary Lou Jepsen, the former CTO of the One Laptop Per Child product, has said she aims to bring out a $75 laptop by the year 2010.
