Don’t know about you but any product right now that’s having a go at stealing Apple’s thunder is a winner as far as I’m concerned, even if it only manages to grab a bolt of lightening or two. So, it’s with great pleasure that I get to talk about Creative’s smooth, different and plain sophisticated upcoming PMP, the Creative Zen X-Fi.

Now we had a sneaky peak at the little darling a week or so back but what we’ve gleaned today is that it comes in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB models with a 2.5″ LCD screen and a slightly disappointing 320 x 240 resolution.

On the plus side, it’ll play just about any file you throw at it – MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, MPEG-4, JPEG, WMV – and it’ll do so over Wi-Fi – that’s streaming and synching. Eat that, Apple.

Your X-Fi will also incorporate an FM radio and microphone as well as an Outlook calendar and some rather interesting software that’ll resize and compress videos for optimum Zening.

Fortunately, the question of price is not a $64,000 one and its release in Japan equates to a swinging tag of around £84, £107 and £155 for the each of the models. Just how fairly that’ll translate on these shores is unclear but I for one am looking forward to having a play whenever the hell they release it.
