Vodafone bags the iPhone! But not for the UK :(
Mobile phone giant Vodafone has confirmed that it has finally managed to secure the rights to sell the Apple iPhone.
Good news right? Finally some choice in which networks you can use your handset on and no more complicated software workarounds? Err, no, sorry.
Vodafone’s deal only extends to those countries where other networks haven’t got in first. Its statement reads: “Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network”.
No UK then. Guess that means we’ll be sticking to O2 or hacking.
Further details on the deal are currently scarce, but the fact that the grand Voda-iPhone launch is only planned for ‘later this year’ suggests that it may bypass the current 8G and 16G EDGE models and leap straight onto the 3G ones. You lucky things, you.
