Onkyo has announced three new home cinema receivers, all ready for high definition, and at a price above bargain basement, but not requiring a re-mortgage.

The TX-SR606 (pictured, £400, replacing last year’s TX-SR605), TX-SR576 (£300), and TX-SR506 (£250) all offer 7.1 channel surround sound support, packing either 130W or 140W per channel, have at least three HDMI inputs, and can decode standard audio including Dolby Digital EX, Dolby ProLogic IIx, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, and DTS Neo:6.

The TX-SR606 can also handle Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD, and has bi-amping ability, and will upscale standard definition video content to 720p or 1080i.

All units offer music optimisation for MP3 and AAC encoded tracks, and feature Audyssey Dynamic EQ loudness correction. Of course they’re iPod-compatible, with the TX-SR606 also featuring RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI).

All three models will arrive next month, available in either black or silver finishes.
