DeLonghi retro toaster and kettle – does what it says on the tin

I’m not going to lie to you. In terms of gadgetry, this new range of DeLonghi toasters and kettles at John Lewis are not the most mind-blowing kitchen appliances I’ve ever seen but they are very pretty.

Apparently one of the exciting features is “rapid boil” which is useful because I can imagine getting rather frustrated if I had to wait for my cup of tea while the sun worked its magic on the water.

In terms of the toaster, we’re supposed to be thrilled by a “removable crumb tray” but as far as I’m concerned, when it’s time to bother with that, it’s time for a new toaster.

What I will say is that at £60 a piece, these retro chic necessities are a bargain. They come in red, black, blue and chrome and all guarantee an “oooh, I like your kettle” unless they’re looking at the toaster.
