sanyo_xacti_x9.jpgA new Xacti appears every few months, but instead of taking the spec to the next level the newly-launched Sanyo Xacti CG9 actually takes things a step back.

Yes, this is the entry-level Xacti. According to Akihabara News, the new model has been created after consultation with women in Japan – finding that slimline looks aren’t as important as functionality. Which means the new Xacti is fatter than previous – but easier to handle and use.

And it’s also got a fairly basic spec, with a 9.1MP CMOS sensor (rather than CCD), 2.5-inch LCD screen, 40MB of internal memory (with SD/SDHC extension), 5x optical zoom, and H.264 video codec (video is recorded in VGA at 60fps max). If that’s less than impressive, it’s worth noting that Sanyo will price this ‘aggressively’ throughout the world. No word on what that will mean for the UK.
