Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.jpgParamount has taken advantage of all the internet has to offer, with the release of their second trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull employing the use of a widget for fans to embed into their blogs and social networking profiles.

Whilst it reeks of astro-turfing, Paramount clearly knows what they’re doing, offering a contest where fans can win trips to the world premiere of the film if they manage to embed the ‘Skull’ widget onto as many sites as they can. They’ve also launched a similar initiative for the upcoming film The Love Guru, with Mike Myers, and Cloverfield a few months back.

A spokesperson at Clearspring, the company which has provided widgets for Paramount, claims “I think the reason that studios are excited about widgets is that word-of-mouth and buzz is what Hollywood is after all the time, if you think about it, what a widget is, it’s a digital version of word-of-mouth.”
