Almost any Internet-connected computer can be used to access Office documents, with the ability to save over one thousand documents online. Users can then view and comment on documents, create simple web lists and notes, and share documents in real time using Microsoft SharedView.

Other features include an activity panel which gives an overview of a particular online workspace, email notifications when a document is changed, direct web links to workspaces, multi-file upload, and improved sharing.

Office Live Workspace is currently free, with the beta programme being rolled out in various languages internationally later in the year. A final version of the software, with changes based upon user feedback, is also expected towards the end of the year.

Microsoft is definitely taking a shot at Google’s online suite of applications by allowing users of its near-ubiquitous Office software access and share their work online.
