Seen in the window of a computer store in Milford, New Hampshire, was this sign ANNOUNCING A POSSIBLE RED ALERT SITUATION FOR MICROSOFT.

Bill, I think it’s time we called upon some massive favours here. Slash still available?

  • I admire what you have done here. I love the part where you say you are doing this to give back but I would assume by all the comments that is working for you as well. Do you have any more info on this?

  • Ubuntu is really good. Its not only free, but runs smoothly without any hassle. As far as Vista is concerned, I don’t think that its better than XP except those features. But as we need to perform some simple tasks in our office, we decided to stick to XP. No point in spending hundreds of dollars.

  • I resisted Vista for the longest time but figured what the hell and put in a 2nd sata drive and dual boot. I never use xp…I run 64 bit Vista in a amd dual core/3gb ram hp business machine. I love it so much, it so much faster than xp, and I do like XP…XP on this machine is 32 bit, so it may be that 64bit xp wouldnt be so bad…Vista is better than I thought it would be, and I wont go back..Some apps (older) have no chance in a 64 bit environment of running..oh well

  • To the two idiots above me, not including encoded, Ubuntu is a great OS, do not get me wrong, but it unfortunately does not have the industry support as Microsoft Windows. Also, and please note this, Vista is better than XP in many ways. Its not anyones fault that you wish to run legacy hardware. You do not have to upgrade. Whats even more funny is Ubuntu will not even install on new hardware. I had to roll my own kernel for it just to make it work on my PC, yet, amusingly enough, Vista Ultimate worked out of the box on it, no 3rd party drivers needed. I have had no problems at all with my Vista install. It has worked so well it actually has renewed my faith in Windows and Microsoft. My performance is ahead of out of the box XP and (K)Ubuntu that I use it now as my primary OS(I used to run a Gentoo install instead). So I would suggest you guys shut your collective mouths and stop wasting bandwidth.

  • I agree with Uncle B, in addition to Ubuntu being free, I tried it on Vista (which wouldn’t play sound from the videos from my camera for some reason). We tried Ubuntu on the Vista and it worked perfectly. So I would suggest saving yourself the >$100 you pay for Vista and just getting Ubuntu.

  • I have Vista. Once you remove all the stuff that makes Vista crash or slam the cpu, it isn’t better than XP. Now that I’m thinking about it Vista with all the features activated isn’t that much better than XP. The only thing that really scares me is that MS will abandon the OS and just move on. Leaving me in the worst of situations.

  • Ubuntu is free, and no blue screen of death
either. Microsoft and Yahoo are both at the
sad end of their respective business curves.
When and old business tries to buy new blood,
they are near death, like their blue screen
