Toshiba goes HD with A and K series Gigashot HD camcorders

Toshiba has launched what it describes as two of the world’s smallest and lightest high definition, hard-disc based video cameras – the Gigashot A series and Gigashot K series.

Both include a 3-inch, widescreen TFT colour LCD display, electronic image stabilisation, a range of automatic and manual white balance settings, range of connectivity including HDMI and an SD/SDHC card slot, offering up to 8GB of stills.

The Gigashot A series captures interlaced MPEG-4/H.264 video at 1080i High Definition resolution, with a high quality Fujinon 10x optical / 80x digital zoom lens and a single 1/3 inch CMOS image sensor. Also featured is a choice of 40GB or 100GB storage (up to 12 hours of high-def footage) and hard disk protection using gel cushioning and a freefall censor.

The Gigashot K series is for ‘the more budget-conscious film enthusiast’, recording MPEG-4/H.264 interlaced high definition video at a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, using a 10x optical/30x digital zoom lens with a focal length of 6.0 to 60mm and the the 1/3 inch CMOS image sensor present on the A series cameras. 40GB and 80GB storage available.

The Toshiba Gigashot A40F and Gigashot A100F are available from February 2008, with typical purchase prices of £679 and £849 respectively. The Toshiba Gigashot K40H and Gigashot K80H are available from February 2008, with typical purchase prices of £449 and £499 respectively.
