Thodio's iBox – iPod sound system in a polished wood casing

Looking more like an exhibit from the Antiques Roadshow than a regular iPod add-on is the Thodio iBox, which ditches the black or white plastic for polished wood and chrome.

And not just any old wood either – you get the choice of beech, oak, teak, zebrano or mahogany, with the top-end models also finished with seven layers of scratch-proof gloss and UV protection. In terms of sound, each iBox features a 2 x 25 Watt solid state amplifier, a pair of Focal Polyglass 100CV1 full range speakers, a built-in rechargeable 15 hour battery pack and a rather neat housing for your iPod. It’s not clear if that housing fits all iPods or if there’s a remote control for the unit, might be worth checking that before you buy.

And if you do decide to buy this retro sound system, make sure that Christmas bonus has arrived – it retails for 359 Euros for a painted MDF version, jumping up to 549 Euros for the deluxe finish (as pictured above).
