BBC launches stripped-down iPlayer for Mac users

The BBC iPlayer has finally arrived for Mac users in beta form, but with a few features missing.

The Mac player streams programmes broadcast over the past seven days to a browser, but doesn’t allow downloading programmes to watch at any time within 30 days, as the Windows version does.

Mac compatibility comes after the BBC was told by the government to make the player platform-neutral – although the BBC argues the need for DRM is making this difficult. The player is expected out of beta on Christmas Day.
