Sony Ericsson W960 iPhone-killer to go on sale this month

sony-ericsson-w960.jpgThe gloves are well and truly off in the battle for mobile music supremacy this Christmas, with Apple’s iPhone squaring off against Nokia’s N81 in the 8GB handset wars. Now Sony Ericsson has reminded us that its own contender, the Walkman W960, will go on sale this month.

We reported on the W960 earlier this year: besides that 8GB of memory, it’s got 3G and Wi-Fi, a 2.6-inch touchscreen, a 3.2-megapixel camera, and an impressive 27 hours battery life when listening to music. Plus Sony Ericsson’s suite of music features, obviously.

I think it could give the iPhone a run for its money, especially if the UK operators sell the W960 at a bargain price to pay-monthly customers. Sony Ericsson has also announced plans to sell a deskstand accessory for it, the MDS-65, which will go on sale around the same time as the W960.

  • Similar to Apple’s iPhone, the Sony Ericsson W960 sports 8GB of on board memory and a 2.6″ 262k color, QVGA resolution touch screen display. This means up to 700 albums worth of music can be stored on the device and navigated with the new Walkman Touch player. Bluetooth with A2DP stereo headset support is also included to allow wireless enjoyment of your music. Sony Ericsson’s TrackID feature has also been beefed up in the latest Walkman range, with detailed information on artists and albums being delivered with the touch of a button.
