EMIEW-2-office-robot.jpgNot the woman, she’s busy and tied into a contract. The little red fella. He’s called EMIEW 2. EMIEW stands for Excellent Mobility and Interactive Existence as Workmate, which is a nightmare for the poor thing to type in every morning when it logs onto the network, so EMIEW 2 it is.

EMIEW 2 is an office worker robot, which was recently demonstrated at Hitachi’s Research Lab. It has the ability to (brace yourself) guide visitors through the office, retrieve documents and carry drinks. It’s not going to make vast numbers of office staff redundant for at least another three or four years.

In fact, according to the report on AP the demonstration had to be abandoned for an hour when EMIEW walked into some desks and fell over.

Sadly there is no video of the event available, which is a shame as clips of stupid robots falling over never cease to amuse.
