eBay clamps down on UK iPhone auctions

iphone-uk-ebay.jpgIt’s iPhone launch day here in the UK, although scandalously, we’re having to wait until 6.02pm this evening to get our hands on Apple’s handset, whereas German consumers could buy theirs this morning. Grr.

Anyway, as you’d expect, eBay is roaring with iPhone-related auctions, despite its attempts to crack down. Wired reports that eBay has banned three-day and one-day iPhone auctions, as well as any listings with Buy-It-Now options, and sales of “unlocked” UK iPhones.

However, at the time of writing, there are 610 ‘iPhone’ auctions in eBay UK’s Mobile Phones category, although admittedly a good few of those are selling entirely different items and just doing some cheeky keyword manipulation. However, there’s a lot of sellers offering iPhones – unlocked or otherwise.
