That’s right, Nokia’s wannabe iTunes-killer is set to go live this Thursday morning (7am GMT to be precise). It was revealed at a launch event for the Nokia Music Store tonight in London, where the company was offering hands-on demos.

In truth, the store is still pretty much the same as when I saw it before, so it’s slick to use, and has plenty of music available – including fairly obscure jazz, as another journalist found out when they tried to catch the store out.

Will it be able to take on Apple’s music store? It’s too early to say, obviously, but Nokia is clearly on the right track with the usability of its service. The mobile version is still looking impressive, and apparently Vodafone and O2 will be going big on the Nokia N81 handset – in Voda’s case, selling the phone with both the Nokia Music Store app AND Omnifone’s MusicStation subscription service preloaded.
