Web Trend Map – has your favourite start-up reached the end of the line?

web-trends-map.jpgThe ludicrously detailed Web Trend Map tries to sort out the tangled mess of today’s internet by neatly (ish) wrapping it around the Tokyo underground map.

Each tube line represents a specific strand of web tech, so you’ve got your social networking line, a big red corporate tech central line, then the outlying little loops of the Bittorrent underground where you’ll get mugged leaving the station.

Sadly, navigating the map is made virtually impossible thanks to the site maker’s insane decision to use SnapShots popups – the mouseover cancer that’s rotting the internet away – but once you’ve turned them off it’s possible to look around and see how a group of design geeks views today’s webscape.

The Shiny Media Extension Line should be opening in 2008.
