Two new Blu-ray models announced at IFA by Sony – the BDP-S300 and the high-end BDP-S500. And if you buy either, Sony will throw in a copy of the Spider-Man High Definition Trilogy.

Both models can output HD1080p via HDMI interface, with audio via 7.1 channel Linear PCM and Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound. The BDP-S500 also adds Dolby TrueHD decoding and Bit Stream Output for DTS-HD1, Dolby TrueHD audio signals via HDMI ver 1.3.

Also featured is upscaling of your existing titles, 24p True Cinema (sound and images as the director intended), Bravia Theatre Sync technology, so you can control all your kit with a single button/control, a motorised sliding panel at the front (BDP-S500 only), which opens automatically when you load or eject a disc and a wide range of format compatibility – BD-ROM, DVD, DVD±R/±RW, MP3 audio file and JPEG images.

No prices as yet, but they should be available in September/October.
