Nokia’s N95 was one of the most hotly-anticipated mobile phones this year (sorry, multimedia computers), but it has faced criticism on two main fronts – its battery life, and its GPS feature.

Running out of juice remains a problem, but Nokia has just taken steps to bolster the location features by including Assisted GPS (A-GPS) in the latest N95 firmware update. It lets users connect to a dedicated Nokia server and get a quicker satellite fix when using the phone’s GPS.

It sounds a bit fiddly to set up – you have to manually enter your network access point – but if you’re a heavy user of the N95’s GPS features (or would be, if they were better), the v12 firmware update is an essential download.
