Are environmental concerns in your mind when buying gadgets? For most people, I’m guessing it’s way behind the specification and styling. But if going green is your priority, you might well be interested in a new calculator range from Casio, made of at least 40 per cent recycled plastic.

There are five models, approved as EcoMark-certified products, as well as complying with the product criteria of the Law on Promoting Green Purchasing in Japan. All are made of more than 40 per cent reprocessed resin, with the upper and lower casings and the battery cover made of 100 per cent reclaimed resin.

In addition, more than 50 per cent of the power source is generated by the solar cell and a highly recyclable material is used for packing the calculators. Prices range from the equivalent of £12 to £30.
