Vodafone customers have been able to watch YouTube videos on their phones for a while now, thanks to a deal signed between the two companies a few months back. However, YouTube has now launched its standalone mobile site, which you can access no matter what network you’re on.

Get to it by pointing your phone’s browser at m.youtube.com (it works fine on my T-Mobile MDA Vario II, so it’s not restricted to Vodafone users here in the UK). However, currently the site only offers “a portion” of YouTube vids rather than the whole shebang.

You can browse through categories including People and Entertainment, or check Recently Added, Most Viewed and Top Rated categories. The quality seems pretty good, and the videos buffer quickly on a 3G connection.

Be warned, you should be on a flat-rate data tariff if you’re planning to use the site a lot, as those streaming data costs will really add up otherwise…
