The Trojan virus that pretends to be a YouTube video

trojan-horse.jpgYou might think ‘tubing’ is one of those deviant sexual practices that lurks in the moist corners of the internetweb. And it probably is. But it’s also a new term coined by security firm Websense, to describe a nefarious new hacking technique that sees a nasty Trojan horse masquerading as a YouTube video.

Users think they’re going to watch the latest funny video from Google’s video-sharing site, but in fact they’re downloading a Trojan horse called YouTube04567, which proceeds to grab sensitive information off their PC (like their subscription details to those tubing websites) and upload them to an undisclosed remote location. Ouch.

Websense claims to have “captured” this code on the Web, but reckons there are still email and instant messaging lures for its URL flitting about. Find out more information on the company’s blog, or watch its explanatory video below.
