Sony has launched the MRW62E-S1/171, a 17-in-1 external multi-card reader with Drive Letter recognition software to make it easy to identify different card formats when transferring data.

Instead of the usual removable disk icons that appear in Windows when an external storage device is connected, the software displays a picture of the type of media instead – basically, so you know what’s there. The reader itself supports most common media cards, including Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, MagicGate Memory Stick, Memory Stick Micro, CompactFlash, Microdrive, SmartMedia, xD-Picture Card, SD Memory Card, SDHC, miniSD Card, MultiMediaCard and RS-MMC.

Expect to see it later this month. No price as yet.
