Lenovo has launched the ThinkPad X61 and X61s notebooks and X61 Tablet PC, promising an enhanced wireless range, improved battery life and additional security.

The ThinkPad X61 and X61s offer improved broadband wireless throughput by more than 30 per cent, as well as increasing the range over previous models. And there’s a wide range of connectivity options on-board, including WWAN, WLAN with 802.11n technology, GB Ethernet, Bluetooth or standard modem. Battery life is also boosted – the X61s can do 12 hours with an eight-cell standard battery and optional extended life battery, with the ThinkPad X61 and X61 Tablet coming in at 11 and 10 hours respectively. Security is beefed up too, with improved password encryption and optional fingerprint reader.

Specifications and screen sizes vary, depending on personal choice, but all are powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processors and use the Vista operating system. As yet, there’s no UK pricing, but the machines should be available in Europe in the next month.
