Most of us use a mouse to get around our PC, but a significant number, especially artistic types, tend to go for a pen and tablet instead. And if you want to join them, Wacom has launched the Bamboo, a Windows Vista-friendly tool aimed at the home office or workplace.

The tablet is wide-format, A6 size, while the pen is cordless and battery-free, as well as being pressure sensitive and ideal for freehand writing, annotating and navigating. In particular, the pen is good for highlighting and making digital notes on documents, spreadsheets and presentation slides. Emails can also be personalised with handwritten signatures, text, sketches and doodles.

Other benefits include intelligent handwriting recognition – converting your scribbled notes into text at the touch of a button, image conversion and if you use the pen in Vista, ‘Flicks’ can be used as shortcuts for commonly-used functions.

Bamboo is available from May, priced at £69.99.
