Skype cuts worldwide SMS rates by half

Skype has announced a 50 per cent cut in the cost of sending SMS messages via its service on PC or Mac – but only for a limited time and to specified countries.

According to Stefan Öberg, VP & GM of telecoms, Skype: “SMS messages are a quick and easy way for people to instantly share their thoughts or whereabouts with their friends who may be offline or on the move. Sending an SMS via Skype is hassle free – and cheap. You can conveniently send SMS messages to the mobile phones of your friends, family and colleagues around the world from the comfort of your keyboard”.

Between 2nd May and 8th May 2007, Skype users anywhere in the world who send SMS messages to recipients in the United States, Australia, Poland, Russia, Taiwan, Belgium, Thailand, Ireland, Austria and Italy will be charged half the usual rate.
