A performance of Flock involves four saxophones and an audience of sixty to eighty people, but unlike a typical concert, the two groups can mingle freely. Computer monitors watch the people and transmit performance instructions to the musicians, and the piece evolves as the dynamic changes. The instructions are also rendered as a score, which is projected on screen for viewing by the entire participants as they wish. Led by composer and Georgia Tech music professor Jason Freeman, Flock was commissioned by the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. [GT]
