applelogo.pngApple has confirmed that it plans to open a new retail store in Glasgow. It will be Scotland’s first Apple Store, and brings the company’s UK tally to ten.

A little further afield, Apple will also open a store in Sydney, Australia.

The two stores will bring Apple’s total stores to 179. In the last quarter, the average revenue per store was a cool $5 million.

Other UK Apple Stores are found in Birmingham, Kent, Kingston, London (x2), Manchester (x2), Sheffield, and Southampton, though they vary in size and stock.

The Glasgow store will open ‘this year’ – nothing more precise at present. US stores will be used to promote the iPhone, though there’s not too much concern about doing that in the UK just yet.

  • I heard some hammering when I walked past yesterday so I assume some work is going on.

No idea about an opening date though.

  • I work close to the location of the future Glasgow store. The previous occupier is gone but work has not started, so I think a July opening (as previously rumored) is unlikely.
