myspace-general-logo.gifA couple from Michigan who have spent five years trying to conceive has now turned to the MySpace social network to try to find suitable birth parents so that they can adopt a child.

Sherry and Karl Dittmar, who have a biological son and two adopted sons, want a girl, and wrote on their profile page:

“Dear birthmother. We cannot imagine how difficult making an adoption plan for your child must be. Thank you for including our profile in your search for the right family to raise your baby.”

31-year-old Sherry said she had received over 1,700 messages since Monday, but no actual offers yet.

Although there are other web sites that specifically aim to match adoptive parents with birth mothers, this is the first reported case of it happening on a general social networking site, and one primarily inhabited by youth as well. It probably won’t be the last.
