Breaking down to a little under 20 million units per year since the player was first introduced in November 2001, Apple announced they have sold 100 million iPods. Presumably this doesn’t constitute 100 million iPod owners – the shuffle, for example, is clearly aimed at the buyer who doesn’t want a bulky full-screen player all the time (but may and probably does want one some of the time). “We want to thank music lovers everywhere for making iPod such an incredible success,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. Though it’s probably the other way around – we should thank Apple for producing one of the more usable music devices in human history, however occasionally [read: often] annoying Apple might be.
