Yet more competition for Apple’s market-leading players, this time from Sony, which has launched the Walkman NW-A800 video MP3 player, which is less than 1cm thick and features a 2-inch colour screen and a battery life of up to 30 hours.

You can view video footage on the screen both horizontally and vertically, while adding video footage (MPEG-4) to the player is just a matter of drag and drop. You can also view JPEG images as a slideshow in JPG format. Battery life is 30 hours for music, 8 hours for video and the device is available with an optional Bluetooth transmitter and in-car kit.

The company is also launching the Walkman NW-E010 series. Available in black and pink, it’s a flash-based music player with quick charge (3 minutes), up to 30 hours of playback on full charge and a built-in FM tuner. And to wrap things up, Sony is introducing the DR-BT50 Bluetooth headphones, which can also take calls at the press of a button and fold away in your bag when not in use.

The NW-A800 range is available from April 2007, the Sony NW-E010 series is available from May 2007 and the DR-BT50 headphones are available in the coming weeks. All prices to be confirmed.
